fantastic limited reissue of this amazing self-titled afro-funk lp from ghanaian singing and percussion star sidiku buari. originally released in 1975, this super-rare album features an all-star cast of top funk instrumentalists playing alongside buari and boy does it show! blending heavy african rhythms with funky disco grooves, the arrangements and the playing are incredibly tight and the album is chock-full of killer tracks including advice from father (sampled by everyone from kenny dope to groove armada) and ku ka maria with its intense funky breaks and awesome drumming from legend bernard ‘pretty’ purdie, which made these tracks huge on the b-boy/breaking scene also. other stand-out tracks include the wonderful disco-tinged afro monsters karam bani and iro le pa plus the cool laidback groove of them yebtheget. top class!

after the roaring success of nicolas jaars space is only noise album the fine curatorial heads at circus company hq have enlisted 2 of their nearest, dearest and most talent co-conspirators for the first round of remix duties. having built a cult following and peerless reputation for his remixes of everyone from roy ayers to cassius, pépé bradock turns in no less than 3 versions of too many kids finding rain in the dust. the proceedings begin with his blind pig mix, an echoing tunnel of balkan strings and dusty samples connecting the lands of disco and hip hop to blinding effect. the train fantôme poke follows and is certain to find its way into many a discerning dj bag in the weeks and months to come, with its mathew herbert-esque syncopations and grinding industrial scrapes and psychedelic whispers. dave aju takes up the baton on the flip turning the albums title track into the kind of late 80s dance floor work out martin hannet would have been proud of, certain to appeal to fans of recent work by matias aguayo, rebolledo and the comeme camp.

for all the wonderfully subtle shell-breaking he did on his full-length, mark e falls back on old, slow habits for his new single, >the day<. and welcomely, we might add. pitching things down to a basement lounge floor crawl, the midlands dj/producer wraps his always chugging kicks and snares in serpentine synth-bass, jazzy, tripleted hi-hats, and moaning, wordless soul vocals. its grasp is tantric—hinting coyly at ecstatic release, but never fully delivering. for the vinyl junkies that bought stone breaker and missed out on it the first time around (it was absent from that version), this release should be a no brainer. but >the day< isnt carrying all the weight here. a new track called >special fx< will have sample hounds—particularly those with a thing for classic electro-pop—salivating. and the oft imitated, never replicated prins thomas shows up on the flip for a (naturally) eleven- minute revamp of >the day<, livening up the bass and drum patterns, adding in strings, piano, guitar, organ, and ending up with something that totally could have emanated from a camaro at some point in the early seventies. (albeit, one owned by someone with interest in eleven-minute instrumentals.) it even has a fade out!

after a short hiatus, the highly sought after hot natured re rubs series is back. forth in the series features four great re-edits by jamie jones, lee foss, miguel campbell and richy ahmed & s.a.s. richy and sas open the proceedings with a dirty ass slice of downtown funk and street hip hop, lee foss (modern amusement) slows the pace down and get’s stuck in to a sick 80s jam. on the flip and jamie jones delivers a perfect disco summer groove, whilst miguel campbell delivers another 80’s inspired killer! its gonna be one hot summer at hot natured mansions…

a true showcase of vesicles creativity, versatility and dark bassline science, the we are lost ep contains 4 deep and dark dubstep excursions and makes a strong case for this finnish duos inclusion among the genres best and brightest of the new generation of sound visionaries. the title track we are lost is a beautiful, dark anthem combining haunting vocals with live guitars, intricate melodies, precision drum programming and fat slabs of bass. the result is a well-rounded, catchy and melancholic masterpiece. smoke curls switches up the program, engulfing the listener in deliberately lo-fi sound fx and percussion whilst conjuring up deeply emotional, melodic bliss by juxtaposing a dusty piano with a soaring, distorted, filtered leadline of 8-bit chiptune charme. destined to become a dark breakstep anthem,mythos harks back to the late 90s metalheadz sound with its epic synthlines, eery vocals and massive, growling reece bass constructions. redemption completes this vicious circle with a journey to the depths of darkness, attesting to vesicles true mastery of uniquely filthy bassline construction on this stripped-down vision of despair. to ensure that this ep looks as mindblowingly sick as it sounds, the vinyl release features stunning, limited-edition full sleeve artwork!

onwards and upwards for the section8 clan as they get ready to deliver possibly their biggest release to date with a mighty, thunderous dubstep assault from one of bristols brightest up & coming production duos, dodge & fuski. having built up quite a reputation already with some killer releases on labels such as never say die and rat, this one looks set to earn them even more attention, get ready for the sound system bangers! ethereal pads open up aerophobia before an epic, grandiose synth enters the mix to set the scene for whats to come and youd better be ready because its quite simply, sick! watch the dance go crazy as we kick into an absolutley heinous bass riff that grabs by the throat and doesnt let go with a smashing break holding it all together. it only goes on to get even better with a totally funked up 4/4 switch up too! more bassline manipulation ensues and the dubstep break returns to complete whats sure to be a massive club anthem. a lot of fun. onto the flip and the tranced-out intro vibe continues with another awe-inpsiring arrangement of twinkling synths and fx on fuckem all. though the ravers are gonna love it and thats really what this is all about. bangin!
